"Abberton, or Abbertown, from its founder, was known in the King Edward the Confessor, and is situated on the Lare brook, near its confluence with the Roman river. It is in the Winstree hundred and Lexden union.. It is about 5 1//2 miles south of Colchester station, and 55 miles from LondonThe parish consists of about 1,067 acres. Population in 1861 was 269."
