ASHINGDON

"ASHINGDON, or Assingdon, was the scene of the famous battle in which King Canute the Great defeated King Edward the Second (Ironsides),.. Ashingdon is in the Rochford union and hundred.. It is 40 miles from London by rail, 2 miles north of Rochford and 7 miles north of Southend station. Population in 1862 was 99."
