"Barling Is an ancient village, which was given by King Edward the Confessor to St. Paul's Cathedral, to whom the living still belongs.It is 5 miles east-south-east of Rochford, 5 miles north-east of Southend and 47 miles from London. It is in the Rochford union and hundred. The parish contains 1,258 acres. Population in 1861 was 354."

Anglican Churches
- All Saints. "Standing out prominently on the flat countryside of the marshland, it is found on a narrow road out of the village between Little Wakering to the south and the river Roach to the north. The church is of norman origin, but mainly 15th century with Tudor additions. The massive tower with spire is 15th century.. Registers date from 1539."
