"Barling Is an ancient village, which was given by King Edward the Confessor to St. Paul's Cathedral, to whom the living still belongs.It is 5 miles east-south-east of Rochford, 5 miles north-east of Southend and 47 miles from London. It is in the Rochford union and hundred. The parish contains 1,258 acres. Population in 1861 was 354."
