"Bradwell-Juxta-Coggeshall is situated 2.5 miles west from that town (Coggeshall) and 3 east from Braintree station. it is on the river Blackwater and on the road from Braintree to Colchester. It derives it's name from a broad well, or spring, rising to the north of Bradwell hall.
The parish consists of about 1161 acres. Population in 1861 was 272."
