"High Roding, 33 miles from London, in Dunmow union and hundred. Rochester diocese, Essex arhdeaconry, Roding deanery, was given by Leofwin, in the reign of King Edward the Confessor, to a Monastery in the Isle of Ely. Population in 1861 was 469 Acres 1,803"*
